A trip from Jamestown to Newport is usually a pleasant voyage. But when an unmanned sailboat makes the trip alone it can turn out
to be both dangerous to the boat and other boats it could come into contact with.
On August 18, 2007 during the early hours
a storm tore through Narragansett Bay leaving a mess in it's wake.
Upon notification by the USCG Station Castle Hill that the
"Leeway" had broken it's mooring and found it's final resting place to be the rocks just south of the Newport Bridge BaywatchRI
carefully made it's way out to recover the boat before the boat became a total loss to it's owner.
Once the "Leeway" was released
from danger it was brought back to Brewers Yacht Yard and repairs were initiated to the damaged hull and keel so the owners could
continue with the rest of their boating season.
1 = final resting spot
2 = initial mooring site
Due to our location we are able to have vessels hoisted out to insure no further damage is incured.
